Fall Mini Sessions in Fort Payne, Alabama: Everything You Need to Know Before You Book
Thinking about booking fall mini sessions? Learn what to expect, what to wear, and why families across Fort Payne, Alabama love updating their photos each fall.
If you've been thinking about updating your family photos this fall, you've probably heard people talking about fall mini sessions. Every year they fill up quickly, and there's a good reason why.
As a Fort Payne, Alabama family photographer, fall is one of my favorite times to photograph families, seniors, and couples. The weather starts cooling off (at least a little!), the sunsets turn golden, and North Alabama gives us some beautiful backdrops.
If you're wondering whether a mini session is right for your family, here's everything you need to know.
What Is a Fall Mini Session?
A fall mini session is exactly what it sounds like—a shorter photography session designed to give you beautiful, updated photos without the time commitment of a full session.
Instead of spending an hour together, mini sessions usually last around 10–15 minutes. They're scheduled back-to-back on one date at one carefully chosen location.
They're perfect if you want:
Updated family photos
Christmas card pictures
Photos for grandparents
Milestone photos of your children
A quick senior update
Beautiful fall portraits without planning a full session
You'll still receive the same attention to detail and editing style that I give every session—just in a shorter amount of time.
Are Mini Sessions Right for Your Family?
Mini sessions are a great fit for many families, but they aren't the best choice for everyone.
A mini session is perfect if:
Your children warm up quickly.
You only need a handful of updated portraits.
Everyone is ready to go when you arrive.
You want a simple, stress-free experience.
A full family session may be a better fit if:
You have several young children who need extra time.
You'd like multiple outfit changes.
You want more variety in your gallery.
You're celebrating something special like an extended family gathering, maternity session, or senior year.
There's no wrong choice. It just depends on what you're hoping to get from your photos.
Why Fall Is the Most Popular Time for Family Photos
There's something about fall that makes people want updated pictures.
Maybe it's because the holidays are right around the corner. Maybe it's the beautiful evening light. Or maybe we finally realize just how fast our kids have grown.
Whatever the reason, fall family photos in Fort Payne, Alabama become one of the busiest seasons of the year.
Golden fields, changing leaves, rustic barns, and warm sunset colors create timeless images that never go out of style.
That's why fall mini sessions often book weeks—or even months—in advance.
What Should You Wear?
The biggest piece of advice I give families is simple.
Coordinate—don't match.
Choose colors that work well together instead of everyone wearing the exact same outfit. Earth tones, creams, denim, rust, olive green, mustard, navy, and soft neutrals all photograph beautifully during the fall.
Most importantly, wear something that makes you feel comfortable and confident.
When you're relaxed, your photos will look natural too.
What Happens During Your Session?
One question I hear all the time is:
"What if my kids won't smile?"
Don't worry.
Some of the sweetest photos happen between the smiles.
I keep things moving, give simple prompts instead of stiff poses, and let kids be themselves. We'll laugh, play a little, and capture genuine moments instead of forcing everyone to look perfectly at the camera the entire time.
My goal is for your session to feel easy—not stressful.
Why I Love Photographing Families in Fort Payne
One of the best parts about being a family photographer in Fort Payne, Alabama is getting to photograph families year after year.
I get to watch babies become toddlers, toddlers become big brothers and sisters, and seniors graduate before heading off to their next adventure.
Those are the moments that matter.
Whether we're photographing your family in an open field, by an old barn, or during a glowing North Alabama sunset, my goal is always the same—to create photographs that feel like your family.
Natural.
Relaxed.
Full of real smiles and real memories.

Photos Fade Into the Background. Meaning Lasts Forever.
The best photographs aren't just beautiful—they tell your story. Learn why meaningful family, maternity, and senior photography is about capturing genuine moments you'll treasure for years to come.
When people think about hiring a photographer, they often think about getting everyone dressed, smiling at the camera, and checking "family photos" off the list.
But I believe the best photographs are about so much more than that.
They're about capturing the season you're living in right now.
The way your little one reaches for your hand. The laugh your teenager still gives when you tell that silly joke. The excitement of waiting for a new baby. The pride of watching your senior get ready to start the next chapter.
Those are the moments that become priceless.
As a family photographer in Fort Payne, Alabama, my goal isn't just to give you beautiful images. It's to create a joyful experience and photographs that bring you right back to how this season of life felt.
Every Season Has a Story
Life moves so much faster than we expect.
One day you're announcing a pregnancy. Before you know it, you're celebrating first birthdays, kindergarten, high school graduation, and eventually watching your own children become parents.
Every season deserves to be remembered.
That's why I love photographing families, seniors, and maternity sessions. Each one tells a different story, but they all have one thing in common—they capture moments that can never be repeated.
The photos become more valuable with every passing year.
It's More Than Looking at the Camera
Of course we'll get the classic portrait. Grandma will appreciate having that one framed on the wall.
But after that?
That's when the magic happens.
We'll walk. We'll laugh. We'll play with the kids. We'll talk about what's making your senior excited for the future. We'll celebrate the tiny kicks from the baby that's almost here.
Those in-between moments are often the ones families love the most.
The genuine smiles.
The hugs that weren't planned.
The little glances that say everything without anyone speaking.
Those are the images that tell your story.
The Experience Matters Just as Much
I've heard so many people say they dread family pictures because they're worried their children won't cooperate or they'll feel awkward in front of the camera.
I want your session to feel different.
I take my time. I guide you every step of the way. You don't have to know how to pose or worry about doing everything perfectly.
My hope is that when you leave your session, you're not just excited to see your photos—you'll be saying, "That was actually so much fun."
Because years from now, I don't want you to remember a stressful photo shoot.
I want you to remember an evening spent laughing together.
Meaning Looks Different for Every Family
A meaningful session doesn't have to be a big milestone.
Sometimes it's simply because your children are growing too quickly.
Sometimes it's because everyone is finally together for a weekend.
Maybe you're celebrating a senior year, expecting your first baby, or welcoming another little one into the family.
Or maybe there's no special reason at all.
Sometimes the reason is simply this:
You don't want to forget.
Those ordinary days often become the memories we treasure the most.
Your Photos Become Part of Your Family's Story
One of my favorite things about photography is imagining where these pictures will be years from now.
They'll hang in hallways where children grow up.
They'll sit on grandparents' shelves.
They'll be pulled out years from now when someone says, "Remember when..."
Long after outfits have gone out of style and little feet have grown bigger, your photographs will still tell the story of the people you love most.
That's what gives them meaning.
Let's Tell Your Story
Whether you're looking for a family photographer in Fort Payne, Alabama, planning a maternity session, celebrating your senior's final year, or simply want to capture this season of life before it changes, I'd love to help you preserve it.
At Little River Lens, we'll capture beautiful portraits, but more importantly, we'll create an experience that's joyful, relaxed, and full of genuine connection.
Because years from now, I don't want you to just remember what everyone looked like.
I want you to remember how it felt to be together.
If that sounds like the kind of photography experience you've been looking for, I'd love to help tell your story.
Sunflower Sessions Gone Wrong... But Somehow Even More Right
My dream sunflower field didn't exactly happen thanks to some very hungry wild turkeys. But what did happen reminded me that beautiful family photos have never been about perfect locations—they're about the people in them.
When I first decided to plant a sunflower field for photography sessions here in Fort Payne, Alabama, I had a picture in my mind.
Rows and rows of tall, golden sunflowers stretching across the field. Families laughing between the blooms. Seniors twirling through the flowers. Little ones picking petals. That dreamy sunflower field you see all over Pinterest.
Then the wild turkeys found my seeds.
If you followed Little River Lens on Facebook, you probably remember seeing my updates. I would go out to check on my field only to find more evidence that my feathered visitors had been enjoying an all-you-can-eat buffet. Every time I planted more seeds, they seemed to know exactly where to find them.
Needless to say... the turkeys won.
Not Exactly What I Planned
When the sunflowers finally started growing, I had to laugh.
Instead of the full field I had imagined, I ended up with only a couple of rows. Even those came up pretty sparsely.
For a while, I wondered if sunflower sessions were even going to happen this year.
As photographers, we spend so much time creating the perfect vision. We picture the location, the lighting, the flowers, the weather—every little detail.
Sometimes nature has completely different plans.
Then Something Unexpected Happened
Yesterday evening I practiced a sunflower session in what was left of my little field.
And surprisingly…
The photos absolutely took my breath away.
No, it wasn't a giant field of endless blooms.
But it didn't need to be.
The evening light wrapped around every sunflower like it was painted just for us. The flowers that did bloom became beautiful pops of color against the soft summer greens. Every image felt warm, joyful, and full of life.
It reminded me that people don't remember how many flowers were in the field.
They remember how they felt.
It's Never Really About the Location
One of the biggest misconceptions about family photography is that the location has to be spectacular.
The truth is, the magic isn't in the location.
It's in the connection.
It's in a little girl laughing because bubbles are floating through the air.
It's a senior who finally relaxes enough to let their personality shine.
It's parents watching their children run through the grass instead of worrying about everyone looking at the camera.
Whether we're photographing in a sunflower patch, an open field, downtown Fort Payne, or one of my favorite locations around Northeast Alabama, what matters most is capturing genuine moments.
The backdrop simply helps tell the story.
Nature Doesn't Have to Be Perfect
One of the things I love most about outdoor photography is that every season is different.
Some years the wildflowers are incredible.
Some years the leaves change early.
Some years the weather refuses to cooperate.
And apparently... some years the wild turkeys decide they want sunflowers more than photographers do.
That's part of what makes every session unique.
No two evenings are ever exactly the same.
No two galleries are ever exactly alike.
Your family's story deserves to be photographed exactly as it is—not in perfect conditions, but in real ones.
Why I Love Summer Photography in Fort Payne
Living in Fort Payne gives us so many beautiful places to photograph.
Summer evenings bring soft golden light that photographers dream about. Whether we're in a quiet field, surrounded by wildflowers, or tucked into a little patch of sunflowers, the light creates that soft, timeless look I love.
It's one of the reasons I enjoy photographing family sessions, maternity sessions, and senior portraits here in Northeast Alabama.
Every location has its own personality.
And sometimes the places that aren't perfect become everyone's favorite.
The Best Sessions Are the Ones You Feel
Looking back, I'm actually thankful the sunflower field didn't turn out exactly the way I planned.
If it had, I might have focused more on the flowers.
Instead, every image draws your eyes right where they belong—to the smile, the laughter, the connection, and the memories being made.
That's what Little River Lens has always been about.
Not perfect fields.
Not perfect poses.
Just real moments you'll love looking back on years from now.
So if you've been thinking about booking a family session, maternity session, or senior portraits in Fort Payne, Alabama, don't wait for everything to be perfect. Sometimes the most beautiful memories come from plans that don't go quite the way we expected.
And if a few determined wild turkeys can teach us anything, it's that the best stories usually begin with something going completely wrong.
I'd love to help tell yours. Reach out to Little River Lens LLC, and let's create something beautiful together—whether it's in a sunflower field or somewhere even better.
Are Mini Sessions Right for You? Here's Why So Many Families Love Them
Thinking about booking a mini session? Learn what mini sessions are, who they're perfect for, and why they're one of the easiest ways to capture beautiful family, senior, and maternity photos in Fort Payne, Alabama.
If you've been searching for mini sessions in Fort Payne, Alabama, you've probably seen the term everywhere. But what exactly is a mini session, and is it the right choice for your family?
Mini sessions have become one of my favorite ways to help families capture beautiful memories without spending hours in front of the camera. They're quick, fun, and perfect for so many different stages of life.
Whether you're updating family photos, celebrating a milestone, or simply want a few beautiful images to remember this season, a mini session might be exactly what you're looking for.
What Is a Mini Session?
A mini session is a shorter photography session that's held on a specific date at a carefully chosen location. Instead of scheduling a full custom session, several families are photographed back-to-back.
Most of my mini sessions last around 10 to 15 minutes. That may not sound like much time, but you'd be surprised how much we can accomplish together.
The goal isn't to rush. It's to keep things moving so little ones stay happy, parents stay relaxed, and everyone leaves with smiles instead of exhausted faces.
Mini Sessions Are Perfect for Busy Families
Let's be honest—life gets busy.
Between school, sports, work, and everything else on the calendar, finding time for family pictures isn't always easy. That's one reason mini sessions are so popular.
A short session means:
Less time away from your day
Easier for toddlers and young children
Less pressure on everyone
Beautiful updated family photos in just a few minutes
Some of my favorite family galleries have come from mini sessions because everyone simply relaxed and enjoyed the experience.
They're Great for More Than Just Families
While family mini sessions are always popular, they're also perfect for:
Mommy & Me sessions
Holiday photos
Seasonal portraits
Anniversary photos
Couples
Throughout the year I offer a variety of themed sessions around Fort Payne and DeKalb County, including fall colors, Christmas setups, spring blooms, and other seasonal favorites.
Each one is designed to give you beautiful images with very little planning on your part.
What Makes My Mini Sessions Different?
I want every session—whether it's 10 minutes or an hour—to feel relaxed and enjoyable.
You don't have to worry if your toddler doesn't sit perfectly or your kids are full of energy. Some of the sweetest moments happen when families simply interact with each other instead of looking at the camera every second.
I'll guide you the entire time so you never have to wonder what to do with your hands or where to stand.
My goal is simple: create genuine smiles, natural connections, and photographs that remind you how this season of life really felt.
Should You Choose a Mini Session or a Full Session?
Mini sessions are a wonderful option if you:
Want updated family photos
Need a few beautiful images
Love seasonal setups
Have younger children with short attention spans
Are looking for an affordable photography option
A full session may be the better choice if you'd like multiple locations, outfit changes, extended family photos, or more time to let everyone settle in.
Neither option is better—they're simply designed for different needs.
How to Know When Mini Sessions Are Released
Many of my mini sessions only happen once each year, and available spots often fill quickly.
The easiest way to stay in the loop is by following Little River Lens on social media or joining my VIP email list. VIP members are often the first to hear about new session dates and special offers before they're shared publicly.
If you've been hoping for family mini sessions in Fort Payne, senior mini sessions, or maternity mini sessions, it's worth keeping an eye out because seasonal dates don't stay open for long.
Let's Capture This Season Together
Life changes so quickly. The little hands get bigger, the babies start walking, seniors graduate, and families grow before we even realize it.
Mini sessions are a simple way to press pause and remember what life looks like right now.
If you're looking for a family photographer in Fort Payne, Alabama, or you're interested in booking a senior, maternity, or seasonal mini session, I'd love to help you create memories you'll treasure for years to come.
Take a look at my upcoming mini sessions, or reach out if you have questions. I can't wait to meet your family and create something beautiful together.
Little River Lens Turns One: A Year of Memories, Growth, and Gratitude

I'm sharing my gratitude for the families, friends, and supporters who made this dream possible—and looking forward to another year of preserving life's sweetest moments.
Little River Lens Turns One: A Year of Memories, Growth, and Gratitude
One year ago, I officially opened the doors to Little River Lens, and I honestly can't believe how quickly this year has gone by.
When I started this journey, I knew I loved photography. I knew I loved people. What I didn't know was just how many incredible families, seniors, and moms-to-be would trust me to capture some of the most important moments of their lives.
Looking back over this first year fills my heart with gratitude.
Thank You for Trusting Me with Your Memories
Every family session, every senior portrait, every maternity session, every giggle, every hug, every sunset, and every tiny little detail has meant more to me than you'll ever know.
When you choose a photographer, you're trusting someone with memories that can never be recreated. That isn't something I take lightly.
To every family who stood in front of my camera this year—thank you.
Whether we met at Little River Canyon, in an open field at sunset, at one of my seasonal mini sessions, or somewhere else around Fort Payne and DeKalb County, you've allowed me to do something I truly love.
Your photos tell your family's story, and I'm honored to be a small part of it.
I Couldn't Have Done This Without My Family and Friends
One thing I've learned while continuing my photography education is that many photographers talk about how difficult it can be when the people closest to them don't understand or support their business.
That hasn't been my story.
As a former teacher, studying has always been part of who I am. I love learning. I'm always taking classes, watching tutorials, reading, practicing new techniques, and looking for ways to become a better photographer and create an even better experience for my clients.
Because of that, I've connected with photographers from all over the country. I've heard so many stories from people who feel like they're trying to build their business alone.
It makes me realize just how blessed I am.
My family and friends have encouraged me from the very beginning. They've shared my posts, told others about Little River Lens, cheered me on, listened to new ideas, and believed in me even when I was still figuring everything out.
That kind of support is a gift, and I don't take it for granted.
Thank you for believing in me.
Every Session Has Helped Me Grow
One of my favorite things about photography is that you're never finished learning.
Every session teaches me something new.
Maybe it's finding beautiful light in a new location, discovering a fun way to get little ones to laugh, helping nervous seniors feel comfortable in front of the camera, or learning how to make a family session feel relaxed instead of stressful.
I want every family, senior, and maternity client who books with Little River Lens to leave saying, "That was actually so much fun."
Beautiful photos are important, but I also want the experience itself to become part of your family's memories.
That's something I'll never stop working toward.
Looking Ahead to Year Two
As I begin my second year, I'm more excited than ever.
I have new seasonal mini sessions planned, fun locations to explore, and plenty of ideas I'm excited to bring to life. I'm continuing to invest in education, equipment, and improving every part of the experience—from booking your session to delivering your final gallery.
My goal has never been to simply take pictures.
My goal is to create photographs that help you remember this season of life years from now.
Because these little moments don't stay little for very long.
Thank You from the Bottom of My Heart
To everyone who has booked a session, shared my work, recommended Little River Lens to a friend, left a kind review, commented on a post, or simply encouraged me along the way—thank you.
You have helped turn a dream into a business that brings me so much joy.
Here's to another year of laughter, sunsets, growing families, graduating seniors, tiny baby kicks, and memories that deserve to be remembered.
If you've been thinking about booking family photos, senior portraits, or a maternity session in Fort Payne, Alabama, I'd love the opportunity to work with you. I'd be honored to help tell your story and create images your family will treasure for years to come. I can't wait to see what Year Two has in store!

If you've been looking for princess mini sessions in DeKalb County, AL, or you're searching for a family photographer near Fort Payne who creates fun experiences instead of stiff poses, you're in the right place.
More Than Just Pretty Pictures
As a photographer, my favorite sessions are the ones filled with laughter.
I love hearing parents say, "That was so much fun!"
During my Princess Minis, your little one isn't expected to stand perfectly still or smile on command. Instead, she gets to play.
She'll pour pretend tea, explore a magical setting, twirl in her favorite princess dress, and simply enjoy being little. Those genuine smiles and giggles create the photographs you'll treasure for years.
Some of the sweetest moments happen when children forget the camera is even there.
The Magic Happens in the Little Moments
One of my favorite things about photographing young children is seeing their excitement over the smallest details.
A tiny tea set.
A sparkly crown.
A beautiful dress.
A chance to pretend.
Their imaginations take over, and that's when the real magic happens.
Those are the moments I love to capture—not just what your child looked like, but who she was at this stage of life.
Years from now, you'll remember how she believed she really was a princess.
A Relaxed Experience for Parents
Let's be honest—parents often worry before family photos.
"What if she won't smile?"
"What if she doesn't cooperate?"
Please don't stress.
I've spent years working with young children, first as a first-grade teacher and now as a family photographer. I know that the best photos don't come from forcing smiles. They come from giving children room to explore, play, and simply be themselves.
We'll keep things relaxed, move at your child's pace, and have fun together.
Some of my favorite images happen in between the "posed" moments.
Why Mini Sessions Are Perfect for Little Ones
Mini sessions are a wonderful option for families with young children.
They're short enough to keep little attention spans happy while still giving us plenty of time to create beautiful images.
They're also a great way to celebrate a season of childhood that passes much too quickly.
Whether your daughter dreams of being a princess every day or simply loves dressing up once in a while, these sessions give her a chance to make magical memories you'll both cherish.

Why Mini Sessions Are So Popular in Fort Payne, Alabama
Thinking about booking a mini session? Learn why mini sessions are so popular for family, senior, and maternity photography in Fort Payne, Alabama, and find out if they're the right fit for you.
If you've been looking for a photographer in Fort Payne, Alabama, you've probably seen the term "mini sessions" pop up everywhere. But what exactly are mini sessions, and are they the right choice for your family, senior, or maternity photos?
As a photographer serving Fort Payne, DeKalb County, and Northeast Alabama, I get this question all the time. The answer depends on what you're looking for, but for many families, seniors, and expecting moms, mini sessions are the perfect way to capture beautiful memories without committing to a full session.
What Is a Mini Session?
A mini session is a shorter photography session that takes place on a specific date, at a specific location, and includes a limited amount of time for photos.
Most mini sessions last between 10 and 20 minutes. Because several sessions are scheduled back-to-back, they are more affordable than a full family, senior, or maternity session.
Mini sessions are often offered during special seasons throughout the year, including:
Spring wildflower sessions
Highland cow mini sessions
Sunflower field sessions
Fall family mini sessions
Christmas mini sessions
Mother's Day sessions
They're designed to be simple, fun, and stress-free.
Mini Sessions Are Perfect for Busy Families
Let's be honest—life gets busy.
Between work, school, sports, and activities, finding time for family photos can feel impossible. That's one reason mini sessions are so popular with families in Fort Payne and the surrounding areas.
A shorter session means:
Less time away from your schedule
Less stress for young children
A lower investment than a full session
Beautiful updated family photos for your walls, social media, and holiday cards
Many parents are surprised by how much we can accomplish in just a few minutes when everyone arrives ready to have fun.
Why Seniors Love Mini Sessions
Senior year is full of milestones, and every senior deserves photos that celebrate this exciting season.
A senior mini session can be a great option for students who only need a few updated portraits for announcements, social media, yearbooks, or graduation celebrations.
Mini sessions work especially well for seniors who:
Want a quick and easy experience
Only need a handful of images
Love themed setups like sunflower fields or downtown Fort Payne locations
Want seasonal photos throughout the year
For seniors who want multiple outfits, locations, and a more personalized experience, a full senior session may be the better fit.
Are Mini Sessions Good for Maternity Photos?
Absolutely.
Many expecting moms choose a maternity mini session because it gives them a chance to document this special season without the time commitment of a full session.
A mini maternity session is ideal if you:
Want a few beautiful images to remember your pregnancy
Prefer a shorter session
Are looking for a budget-friendly option
Love seasonal outdoor locations
The golden light we get around Fort Payne, Little River Canyon, and the surrounding areas creates a beautiful backdrop for maternity photos.
When a Full Session Might Be Better
While mini sessions are wonderful, they're not the perfect fit for every situation.
You may want to consider a full session if:
You have a large family group
You want multiple locations
You want several outfit changes
Your child needs extra time to warm up
You want a larger variety of images
Full sessions allow more flexibility and provide a more customized experience from start to finish.

Little River Canyon Senior Pictures
One of the most iconic locations in Alabama, Little River Canyon offers dramatic overlooks, rocky cliffs, and incredible natural scenery.
This location works especially well for seniors who love adventure and the outdoors. The canyon provides a variety of looks within a single session. We can capture wide scenic portraits, close-up images among the trees, and stunning sunset photographs overlooking the canyon.
During the fall, the changing leaves create even more color and depth. As a result, Little River Canyon remains one of the most requested senior photo locations in the area.
DeSoto State Park Senior Photography
Another favorite is DeSoto State Park. This location offers beautiful trails, wooden bridges, waterfalls, and forest scenery.
The variety makes it easy to create a gallery with multiple looks. Seniors who want a natural, timeless aesthetic often love DeSoto State Park because the environment feels peaceful and authentic.

The rolling landscapes and peaceful roads create a relaxed atmosphere. This area is perfect for seniors who want a country-inspired session with natural scenery and open spaces.

Downtown sessions also pair well with multiple outfit changes, allowing you to create a diverse gallery that reflects different aspects of your personality.
Open Fields at Sunset
Sometimes the simplest locations create the most magical images.
Open fields during golden hour offer soft light, warm colors, and a timeless feel that never goes out of style. Sunset sessions in DeKalb County often produce glowing skies and dreamy portraits that highlight natural beauty.
These locations work beautifully for seniors who want a relaxed, carefree vibe. Flowing dresses, casual outfits, and genuine smiles all shine in this setting.

Senior Photography Sessions in Northeast Alabama
Senior year is a season worth celebrating, and professional senior portraits help preserve these memories for years to come. If you're looking for senior photography in Fort Payne, Rainsville, Collinsville, Valley Head, DeKalb County, or Northeast Alabama, now is the perfect time to book your session. Discover why senior portraits matter, the best time to schedule your photos, and how to create a session that reflects your unique personality and style.
Why Senior Year Deserves More Than Just a Yearbook Photo
Senior year is a once-in-a-lifetime milestone. It marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. Between football games, prom, graduation, college plans, and making memories with friends, this season goes by quickly. That is why senior photography sessions are so important.
Professional senior portraits capture more than a smile. They tell the story of who you are right now. Your personality, interests, style, and achievements all deserve to be documented in a way that feels authentic and timeless.
If you're searching for a senior photographer in Fort Payne, Rainsville, Collinsville, Valley Head, DeKalb County, or anywhere in Northeast Alabama, now is the perfect time to schedule your session.
The Best Time to Book Senior Photos in Northeast Alabama
Senior season is one of the busiest times of the year for photographers. Fall dates often book months in advance, especially during peak color season in Northeast Alabama.
Many seniors love scheduling their portraits during:
Late summer for warm golden light
Fall for colorful leaves and cooler temperatures
Spring for fresh blooms and vibrant landscapes
Booking early gives you the best selection of dates and locations. It also ensures you have plenty of time to use your photos for graduation announcements, yearbook deadlines, and social media.
Senior Sessions That Reflect Your Personality
One of my favorite things about senior photography is creating a session that feels completely unique to each senior.
Whether you love sports, agriculture, music, fashion, hunting, rodeo, cheerleading, or simply spending time outdoors, your session should reflect who you are.
Northeast Alabama offers so many beautiful locations for senior portraits. From scenic overlooks near Fort Payne to open fields in Valley Head and charming small-town settings in Collinsville and Rainsville, there are endless options for creating images that feel personal and meaningful.
Your senior session is not about stiff poses. Instead, it is about capturing genuine confidence, natural smiles, and the excitement of what lies ahead.
What to Wear for Your Senior Portrait Session
Choosing outfits can feel overwhelming, but it does not have to be.
I always recommend bringing a variety of looks, including:
A casual everyday outfit
A dressy outfit
Something that represents your hobbies or activities
School colors, jerseys, uniforms, or letterman jackets
Neutral colors photograph beautifully, while layers and textures add visual interest. Most importantly, wear something that makes you feel comfortable and confident.
Confidence always photographs well.
Why Professional Senior Photography Is Worth It
Senior portraits become family keepsakes for years to come. These images are displayed in homes, shared with relatives, included in graduation announcements, and looked back on long after graduation day.
While smartphone photos have their place, professional senior photography creates a polished and personalized experience that highlights this important milestone in a meaningful way.
Years from now, you'll be glad you invested in photographs that truly capture this season of life.

Why You Should Upload Large Photos From a Computer (Not Your Phone!)
Not sure whether to upload your photos from your phone or your computer? If you want your images to stay crisp, clear, and full of detail, always upload from your computer! In this post, I’m breaking down why it matters—and how to keep your photos looking their absolute best online and in print.
You just got your gallery back—yay! You’re excited to start uploading your favorite images to your blog, website, or maybe even a photo book. But before you hit that upload button from your phone, here’s something super important to know:
📸 If you're uploading large, professional photos—use your computer, not your phone.
I know it might feel faster or easier to just grab a photo from your phone’s camera roll, but if you want the images to look crisp, clear, and high-quality (especially if you’re printing or sharing them online), your computer is definitely the way to go. Let me explain why!
1. Your Phone Compresses the Photos
When you download photos onto your phone, they’re often automatically resized or compressed to save space. This means they might not be the full-quality version you received in your gallery.
So even if the image looks fine on your phone screen, uploading it to a website or trying to print it might make it look a little blurry or pixelated. Using your computer ensures you’re working with the original, high-resolution files I delivered to you.
2. You’ll Keep That Gorgeous Quality
Your gallery includes high-resolution files for a reason—they’re meant to look amazing everywhere, whether you're printing them or sharing them online.
Uploading from your computer means:
The image keeps its sharpness and full detail
It’ll look perfect on big screens or in printed albums
You’re using the version I edited with alllll the love 💛
3. Better for Websites, Blogs & Print Services
If you’re creating a personal blog post, building a wedding website, or designing a photo book, these platforms are built to handle uploads from a computer—not your phone.
On a computer, it’s easier to:
Select the exact photos you want
Upload multiple files at once
Avoid errors or weird cropping
Keep everything organized
And most importantly, your images will look their best!
4. Cloud Storage Makes It Easy
If you really love using your phone (hey, I do too!), try using Dropbox, Google Drive, or iCloud to store your photos. You can download the full-size images to your computer from there—super easy, and no quality lost.
In Short: Let Those Photos Shine ✨
I put so much care into editing and delivering your images in the best possible quality—and uploading them from your computer is the best way to show them off in all their glory!

Fort Payne Senior Portraits in Open Fields and Parks | 4 Unique Graduation Sessions Full of Heart
Looking for a senior photographer in Fort Payne, Alabama who captures more than just pretty pictures? You’re in the right place. I specialize in natural, heartfelt senior portraits for both high school and college graduates.
Whether we’re chasing golden hour in open fields or sharing a laugh during a spontaneous moment, your session is all about celebrating you. With years of experience as both an educator and photographer, I know how meaningful this milestone is—and I’m here to document it with care, joy, and confidence.
Every session is customized to reflect your unique personality and journey. From outfit guidance to posing support, I make sure you feel comfortable, celebrated, and completely yourself in front of the camera.
Let’s create senior portraits you’ll actually want to frame—and never forget.
This year has been filled with some truly meaningful senior sessions, and I couldn’t be more grateful. I had the absolute honor of photographing four incredible graduates—each one on their own journey, each one celebrated in a special way.
From high school seniors stepping into their next big adventure to college grads closing one chapter and stepping into another, these sessions in Fort Payne’s open fields were full of light, laughter, and pride.
Senior Portraits in Fort Payne, Alabama
Each of these four sessions took place in the open, natural fields or parks that Fort Payne and Valley Head are known for. The kind of places where golden light spills through the trees and every breeze feels like part of the story.
The weather was a little mixed—some sunny, some overcast—but honestly, it only added to the variety and beauty of the images. That soft, dreamy lighting on the cloudier days? Pure magic. And when the sun popped through? It felt like a little celebration in itself.
A Mix of Graduates, a Whole Lot of Personality
Each session had its own vibe, but one thing they all had in common? Joy. Whether it was the relaxed confidence of the college grads, the energy and excitement of the high school seniors, or that spontaneous “actually…” moment that sent us into fits of laughter, these sessions were full of life and personality.
There’s nothing cookie-cutter about the way I approach senior sessions—because there’s nothing cookie-cutter about the amazing grads I get to photograph. Everyone brings something different, and I love leaning into that.
Why Senior Sessions Are So Special to Me (Hint: I’m an Educator Too!)
Senior portraits mean the world to me—not just as a photographer, but as someone who works in education. I see the effort, the growth, the transformation that happens in these final years. I know how much heart goes into earning that diploma or degree.
So when I get the chance to photograph a graduate, I show up with so much pride and care. I want them to feel celebrated and confident—and to have photos that reflect who they are in this moment.
Let’s Celebrate Your Graduation with a Senior Session in Fort Payne
Whether you’re about to walk the stage or already tossed your cap in the air earlier this year, it’s never too late to document this milestone. Alabama’s scenic locations make perfect backdrops for portraits that feel relaxed, natural, and totally you.
Golden Hour Motherhood Session in Fort Payne, Alabama
There’s just something magical about golden hour on a farm in Fort Payne, Alabama. The way the light spills across the fields makes everything feel calm, soft, and timeless. For this sweet motherhood session, I got to capture a mama and her son soaking up every bit of that golden glow.
A Dreamy Farm Field Setting
The session took place in a quiet field on a farm, surrounded by the natural beauty that makes Fort Payne so special. As the sun began to set, the sky lit up with warm tones that created the most beautiful backdrop. Fort Payne is already such a charming spot in Alabama, and when you add golden hour into the mix, it feels like pure magic.
What They Wore for Their Session
This mother chose a flowing sage green full-length dress that looked stunning against the golden light and soft textures of the field. The muted tones were elegant, timeless, and perfect for golden hour photography. Her son wore a tan and white checked outfit that added a sweet, playful touch while keeping the color palette neutral and cohesive. Outfits like these not only photograph beautifully but also allow the connection and emotions to shine through.
The Sweet Bond Between Mother and Son
Little ones are full of curiosity, and this boy was no exception. From curious glances to giggles when mama lifted him up, every moment was filled with genuine connection. Photographing motherhood sessions like this is such a gift—it’s all about freezing those fleeting moments that pass so quickly as kids grow.
Why I Love Golden Hour Sessions in Fort Payne
Golden hour is hands-down my favorite time to shoot, especially in a farm field setting. The light is softer, colors are richer, and everything feels a little more romantic. It’s the perfect recipe for capturing natural, candid photos that tell your family’s story. Fort Payne offers so many gorgeous outdoor locations, but farm fields at sunset might just be my favorite.
Ready to Capture Your Own Golden Hour Memories?

Darth Vader, Baby Chicks, and My Last Year in the Classroom
Hatching chicks in the classroom is one of the best hands-on learning activities for 1st graders. This year, I brought the project to life in September for the first time, and my students were thrilled! See how we tied the chick hatch into memory books, classroom traditions, and unforgettable photos.
This year feels different. It’s my last year in the classroom, and I’ve been soaking up every little moment. Hatching chicks has been a favorite tradition with my students for years. This year we started our hatch in September. 🐣 And let me tell you—it made the beginning of the school year more magical than ever.
From the moment I got the incubator out, my students were hooked. We talked about the life cycle of a chicken, counted down the days, and excitedly waited for hatch day to arrive. Their excitement reminded me exactly why I’ve loved teaching all these years.
Meet Darth Vader 🖤🐥
Our first chick hatched fully fluffed and ready for the spotlight. The class proudly named it Darth Vader, keeping in theme with our Star Wars-inspired classroom. Vader quickly became a favorite, and honestly, I couldn’t imagine a more perfect name for our first fluffy friend.
The Sweetest Moment: Chick Cuddles
While I take care of feeding and watering, the most exciting part for the kids is getting to hold the chicks. For many of them, it’s the very first time they’ve ever held a baby animal.
Their eyes light up. Their voices go quiet. Their hands cradle these tiny lives so gently. It’s a moment I never want to forget—and I don’t want them to forget it either.
So, I take a photo of every single child holding a chick. Each image is printed and lovingly placed into their end-of-year memory book.
Because Moments Like This Deserve to Be Remembered
As a teacher and a photographer, I know how quickly childhood moves. These little hands won’t always be so small. But with just one photo, that moment—their first time holding a chick—can stay with them forever.
These photos are more than cute snapshots. They’re proof of joy, bravery, curiosity, and growth. They tell a story these kids will remember when they look back one day.
A Beautiful Beginning... and Ending
Even though this is my last year teaching, starting it with something so engaging felt incredibly special. The chick hatch wasn’t just a science lesson—it became a symbol of growth, of trying something new, and of savoring the little moments.
We read chick books and drew chick pictures. But most of all, we made a memory together.
And now it’s one they’ll get to keep forever.

5 Creative Ways to Display Your Professional Photos at Home
✨ Don’t let your beautiful photos sit on your phone! Here are 5 creative ways to display your family, newborn, maternity, or engagement photos at home—from gallery walls to heirloom albums and even seasonal rotations.
5 Creative Ways to Display Your Professional Photos at Home
You’ve had the session. You’ve fallen in love with your gallery. Now what?
Too often, beautiful photos end up lost in digital space—buried in cloud storage or stuck in your phone. But your memories deserve more than a folder. They deserve to be seen, celebrated, and enjoyed every single day.
If you’ve had a family, newborn, maternity, or engagement session recently, here are five of my favorite ways to turn those moments into art in your home:
1. Create a Gallery Wall
Gallery walls are a timeless way to make a big impact. Mix and match sizes, frame styles, and even photo types (color + black & white!) to give your space personality. A hallway, staircase, or living room wall is the perfect place to showcase your growing family through the years.
Pro tip: Lay it out on the floor first or use paper templates on the wall to get spacing just right.
2. Frame a Statement Piece
Not ready for a full gallery wall? No problem. One large framed print—like a cozy family photo, a quiet newborn moment, or an epic golden-hour couple shot—can make a bold, beautiful statement in your home. Hang it above your bed, couch, or fireplace to anchor your space with love.
3. Design a Heirloom Photo Album
Albums are such an underrated way to enjoy your session. They keep your favorite images all in one place, and they're perfect for coffee tables, shelves, or gifting to grandparents. I always recommend Mpix for their quality and easy ordering process.
Bonus: Albums are especially great for maternity and newborn sessions. You’ll never regret having those early memories printed.
4. Use Wood or Canvas Prints
Looking for something a little more unique? Try a canvas wrap or a rustic wood print for a textured, cozy vibe. These work beautifully for maternity and family minis and add warmth to any room. They're lightweight, easy to hang, and make your photos feel like art.
5. Create a Seasonal Print Rotation
If you're someone who loves mini sessions throughout the year, consider framing a few favorite prints and swapping them out with each season! Display spring florals, cozy fall tones, or twinkly holiday minis depending on the time of year. It keeps your home decor fresh and meaningful.
Let’s Get Those Photos Off Your Phone ✨
You invested in beautiful photos—now let’s make sure they don’t get forgotten. If you're ready to book your next session or have questions about how to order prints, I’d love to chat!
Morning Portrait Session at Little River Canyon in Fort Payne, AL
✨ Beautiful morning portrait session at Little River Canyon in Fort Payne, AL. Soft light, joyful energy, and stunning canyon views.
Morning Portrait Session at Little River Canyon in Fort Payne, AL
There’s nothing like starting the day with a sunrise session at Little River Canyon in Fort Payne, Alabama. The crisp morning air, soft golden light, and peaceful atmosphere make it the perfect time for portraits. Recently, I photographed one young woman here, and her session was full of joy, laughter, and beautiful style.
Why Morning Light is Perfect for Portraits
Morning sessions at Little River Canyon are pure magic. The light is softer and more even, giving portraits a dreamy, golden glow without the harsh shadows of midday. The canyon feels calm and quiet in the early hours, which creates a relaxed vibe for photos. This made the perfect setting for her solo portrait session in Fort Payne, AL.
Two Outfits, Two Unique Vibes
She styled her session with two completely different looks, and both were stunning against the canyon backdrop. Her first outfit was filled with bright, colorful tones that popped against the rocky cliffs and lush greenery. It reflected her fun personality and set such a playful tone for the morning.
Her second look was a mauve pink outfit, soft and feminine. Against the golden morning light, the mauve tones felt elegant and timeless. Having two outfits gave her session a perfect mix of bold energy and graceful beauty, while also adding variety to her gallery.
Capturing Confidence and Joy
From the very first shot, she radiated confidence. Her laughter carried through the entire session, and that joy made every portrait feel authentic and alive. Whether she was striking a confident pose in her colorful outfit or glowing in her soft pink look, her portraits captured her true self—joyful, beautiful, and full of life.
Pro Tip: Morning vs. Evening Sessions at Little River Canyon
Many people wonder if they should book a morning session or an evening golden hour session. Here’s the truth: both are gorgeous, but they give off different vibes.
🌞 Morning Sessions – The light is soft and glowy, the canyon is quieter, and the cool air makes it comfortable even in warmer months. It’s perfect if you want a fresh, calm, and bright look.
🌅 Evening Sessions – Golden hour in the evening gives warm, dramatic tones with long shadows and a romantic atmosphere. The canyon can be busier, but the sunset views are stunning.
It really depends on your personality and the look you want for your portraits. This young woman’s morning session worked beautifully because it reflected her cheerful energy and gave us soft, natural colors throughout the shoot.

The People Who Believe in Me | Fort Payne AL Photographer
Two months ago, I picked up my camera and started the journey of becoming a photographer here in Fort Payne, Alabama. It’s brand new, it’s exciting, and at times it feels overwhelming. But the one thing that has made this adventure possible is the people who believe in me.
Why Support Matters So Much
Starting something new can feel scary. When you’re chasing a dream, it’s easy to wonder if you’re good enough or if it will actually work out. What has pushed me forward isn’t just my passion for photography—it’s the encouragement from the people around me. Having friends, family, and mentors remind me that I’m capable has made all the difference.
Friends Who Let Me Practice
Every photographer has a beginning, and for me, that meant practice sessions with friends. They stepped in front of my camera when I was still figuring out the basics. They trusted me, laughed with me, and gave me the space to learn. Those early shoots weren’t perfect, but they were filled with joy—and they built my confidence.
Family Who Cheered Me On
My family has been my biggest cheerleaders. From reminding me that growth takes time to celebrating every little win, they’ve been in my corner since day one. Their support has made me believe that this isn’t just a hobby—it’s a path worth pursuing.
Mentors and Community Inspiration
I’ve also been inspired by other photographers and creatives who’ve shared advice, encouragement, and their own stories. Seeing how others built their businesses and stayed true to their passion has shown me what’s possible. Even in Fort Payne, there’s a strong creative spirit, and I’m grateful to be a part of it.
A Journey Built on Belief
When I look at where I am now, I know I wouldn’t have made it here without the people who believed in me. Their encouragement is woven into every photo I take. It reminds me that photography isn’t just about creating pretty images—it’s about connection, trust, and stories worth remembering.
Let’s Capture Your Story Together
If you’re in Fort Payne, AL and looking for someone who will put their whole heart into capturing your memories, I’d love to work with you. My journey may be new, but it’s fueled by the love and support of the people around me—and that passion carries into every session. Contact me here to plan your photos, or follow along on Instagram to watch my journey unfold.
Why I Started Little River Lens LLC | From Teacher to Photographer
Why I Started Little River Lens LLC | From Teacher to Photographer
If you had told me a year ago that I’d be starting my own photography business, I’m not sure I would’ve believed you. But here I am—wrapping up my final year as a teacher and stepping into a brand new chapter with Little River Lens LLC. This journey has already been full of heart, growth, and a lot of beautiful light (literally and metaphorically ✨).
Trading the Classroom for a Camera
Teaching has been a huge part of my life. For years, I poured my energy into helping others learn and grow. But deep down, I knew I was ready for something new—something creative, something of my own, and something I could pour my whole heart into.
Photography found me at just the right time. In the last few months, I purchased my first camera, built a website through Squarespace, and started delivering galleries with CloudSpot. More than the technical side, I’ve fallen in love with capturing the little in-between moments. The real smiles. The connection. The story behind every single image.
Building Little River Lens LLC from the Ground Up
Like most new beginnings, this one has been filled with learning curves—but also SO much joy. What’s made it even more special is the support I’ve received from my family and friends. They’ve shown up in every way: letting me practice on them, cheering me on, sharing my work, and reminding me I can do this.
Launching Little River Lens LLC hasn’t just been about learning a new skill. It’s about creating something rooted in purpose. Something that feels like me.
What I Bring to Your Session
My background as a teacher has shaped the way I approach photography—with patience, empathy, and an eye for those real, natural moments. Whether I’m photographing a couple in love, a family giggling under the golden sun, or a small business owner chasing their dream, my goal is to help you feel seen and celebrated.
Even as a newer photographer, I bring deep intentionality, a strong work ethic, and a creative heart. Every session is an honor. Every story matters.
