Senior year is a huge milestone. Your senior photos should feel just as memorable. One of the best parts of planning a senior session is choosing a location that matches your personality and style. Fortunately, DeKalb County, Alabama offers some of the most beautiful backdrops in North Alabama.

Whether you love mountain views, waterfalls, small-town charm, or golden sunset fields, there is a perfect spot waiting for you. If you're searching for the best senior photo locations in DeKalb County, Alabama, here are a few favorites that photograph beautifully throughout the year. This guide highlights popular local locations, which is a great way to help seniors prepare for their session and choose a setting that fits their vision.

Little River Canyon Senior Pictures

One of the most iconic locations in Alabama, Little River Canyon offers dramatic overlooks, rocky cliffs, and incredible natural scenery.

This location works especially well for seniors who love adventure and the outdoors. The canyon provides a variety of looks within a single session. We can capture wide scenic portraits, close-up images among the trees, and stunning sunset photographs overlooking the canyon.

During the fall, the changing leaves create even more color and depth. As a result, Little River Canyon remains one of the most requested senior photo locations in the area.

DeSoto State Park Senior Photography

Another favorite is DeSoto State Park. This location offers beautiful trails, wooden bridges, waterfalls, and forest scenery.

The variety makes it easy to create a gallery with multiple looks. Seniors who want a natural, timeless aesthetic often love DeSoto State Park because the environment feels peaceful and authentic.

Additionally, the park photographs beautifully during every season. Spring wildflowers, summer greenery, fall colors, and winter textures all provide unique opportunities for stunning portraits.

Valley Head for Small-Town Southern Charm

For seniors looking for a quieter setting, Valley Head offers beautiful countryside views and classic Southern charm.

The rolling landscapes and peaceful roads create a relaxed atmosphere. This area is perfect for seniors who want a country-inspired session with natural scenery and open spaces.

Because Valley Head is less crowded than some of the larger parks, it also allows for a more laid-back experience during your session.

Downtown Fort Payne Senior Sessions

If you prefer an urban feel, Fort Payne has plenty to offer. Downtown Fort Payne features historic architecture, brick buildings, storefronts, and unique textures that add character to senior portraits.

This location is ideal for seniors who want a modern and stylish look. The combination of architecture and small-town charm creates a versatile backdrop that feels both classic and current.

Downtown sessions also pair well with multiple outfit changes, allowing you to create a diverse gallery that reflects different aspects of your personality.

Open Fields at Sunset

Sometimes the simplest locations create the most magical images.

Open fields during golden hour offer soft light, warm colors, and a timeless feel that never goes out of style. Sunset sessions in DeKalb County often produce glowing skies and dreamy portraits that highlight natural beauty.

These locations work beautifully for seniors who want a relaxed, carefree vibe. Flowing dresses, casual outfits, and genuine smiles all shine in this setting.

Because the light changes quickly, sunset field sessions often create some of the most breathtaking images of the entire year.

Senior Photography Sessions in Northeast Alabama

Senior year is a season worth celebrating, and professional senior portraits help preserve these memories for years to come. If you're looking for senior photography in Fort Payne, Rainsville, Collinsville, Valley Head, DeKalb County, or Northeast Alabama, now is the perfect time to book your session. Discover why senior portraits matter, the best time to schedule your photos, and how to create a session that reflects your unique personality and style.

Why Senior Year Deserves More Than Just a Yearbook Photo

Senior year is a once-in-a-lifetime milestone. It marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. Between football games, prom, graduation, college plans, and making memories with friends, this season goes by quickly. That is why senior photography sessions are so important.

Professional senior portraits capture more than a smile. They tell the story of who you are right now. Your personality, interests, style, and achievements all deserve to be documented in a way that feels authentic and timeless.

If you're searching for a senior photographer in Fort Payne, Rainsville, Collinsville, Valley Head, DeKalb County, or anywhere in Northeast Alabama, now is the perfect time to schedule your session.

The Best Time to Book Senior Photos in Northeast Alabama

Senior season is one of the busiest times of the year for photographers. Fall dates often book months in advance, especially during peak color season in Northeast Alabama.

Many seniors love scheduling their portraits during:

  • Late summer for warm golden light

  • Fall for colorful leaves and cooler temperatures

  • Spring for fresh blooms and vibrant landscapes

Booking early gives you the best selection of dates and locations. It also ensures you have plenty of time to use your photos for graduation announcements, yearbook deadlines, and social media.

Senior Sessions That Reflect Your Personality

One of my favorite things about senior photography is creating a session that feels completely unique to each senior.

Whether you love sports, agriculture, music, fashion, hunting, rodeo, cheerleading, or simply spending time outdoors, your session should reflect who you are.

Northeast Alabama offers so many beautiful locations for senior portraits. From scenic overlooks near Fort Payne to open fields in Valley Head and charming small-town settings in Collinsville and Rainsville, there are endless options for creating images that feel personal and meaningful.

Your senior session is not about stiff poses. Instead, it is about capturing genuine confidence, natural smiles, and the excitement of what lies ahead.

What to Wear for Your Senior Portrait Session

Choosing outfits can feel overwhelming, but it does not have to be.

I always recommend bringing a variety of looks, including:

  • A casual everyday outfit

  • A dressy outfit

  • Something that represents your hobbies or activities

  • School colors, jerseys, uniforms, or letterman jackets

Neutral colors photograph beautifully, while layers and textures add visual interest. Most importantly, wear something that makes you feel comfortable and confident.

Confidence always photographs well.

Why Professional Senior Photography Is Worth It

Senior portraits become family keepsakes for years to come. These images are displayed in homes, shared with relatives, included in graduation announcements, and looked back on long after graduation day.

While smartphone photos have their place, professional senior photography creates a polished and personalized experience that highlights this important milestone in a meaningful way.

Years from now, you'll be glad you invested in photographs that truly capture this season of life.

Senior Photographer Serving DeKalb County

As a senior photographer serving Northeast Alabama, I love helping seniors celebrate their accomplishments while creating images that feel natural, fun, and uniquely theirs.

Why You Should Upload Large Photos From a Computer (Not Your Phone!)

Not sure whether to upload your photos from your phone or your computer? If you want your images to stay crisp, clear, and full of detail, always upload from your computer! In this post, I’m breaking down why it matters—and how to keep your photos looking their absolute best online and in print.

You just got your gallery back—yay! You’re excited to start uploading your favorite images to your blog, website, or maybe even a photo book. But before you hit that upload button from your phone, here’s something super important to know:

📸 If you're uploading large, professional photos—use your computer, not your phone.

I know it might feel faster or easier to just grab a photo from your phone’s camera roll, but if you want the images to look crisp, clear, and high-quality (especially if you’re printing or sharing them online), your computer is definitely the way to go. Let me explain why!

1. Your Phone Compresses the Photos

When you download photos onto your phone, they’re often automatically resized or compressed to save space. This means they might not be the full-quality version you received in your gallery.

So even if the image looks fine on your phone screen, uploading it to a website or trying to print it might make it look a little blurry or pixelated. Using your computer ensures you’re working with the original, high-resolution files I delivered to you.

2. You’ll Keep That Gorgeous Quality

Your gallery includes high-resolution files for a reason—they’re meant to look amazing everywhere, whether you're printing them or sharing them online.

Uploading from your computer means:

  • The image keeps its sharpness and full detail

  • It’ll look perfect on big screens or in printed albums

  • You’re using the version I edited with alllll the love 💛

3. Better for Websites, Blogs & Print Services

If you’re creating a personal blog post, building a wedding website, or designing a photo book, these platforms are built to handle uploads from a computer—not your phone.

On a computer, it’s easier to:

  • Select the exact photos you want

  • Upload multiple files at once

  • Avoid errors or weird cropping

  • Keep everything organized

And most importantly, your images will look their best!

4. Cloud Storage Makes It Easy

If you really love using your phone (hey, I do too!), try using Dropbox, Google Drive, or iCloud to store your photos. You can download the full-size images to your computer from there—super easy, and no quality lost.

In Short: Let Those Photos Shine ✨

I put so much care into editing and delivering your images in the best possible quality—and uploading them from your computer is the best way to show them off in all their glory!

Looking for a senior photographer in Fort Payne, Alabama who captures more than just pretty pictures? You’re in the right place. I specialize in natural, heartfelt senior portraits for both high school and college graduates.

Whether we’re chasing golden hour in open fields or sharing a laugh during a spontaneous moment, your session is all about celebrating you. With years of experience as both an educator and photographer, I know how meaningful this milestone is—and I’m here to document it with care, joy, and confidence.

Every session is customized to reflect your unique personality and journey. From outfit guidance to posing support, I make sure you feel comfortable, celebrated, and completely yourself in front of the camera.

Let’s create senior portraits you’ll actually want to frame—and never forget.

👉 Book your senior session now

This year has been filled with some truly meaningful senior sessions, and I couldn’t be more grateful. I had the absolute honor of photographing four incredible graduates—each one on their own journey, each one celebrated in a special way.

From high school seniors stepping into their next big adventure to college grads closing one chapter and stepping into another, these sessions in Fort Payne’s open fields were full of light, laughter, and pride.

Senior Portraits in Fort Payne, Alabama

Each of these four sessions took place in the open, natural fields or parks that Fort Payne and Valley Head are known for. The kind of places where golden light spills through the trees and every breeze feels like part of the story.

The weather was a little mixed—some sunny, some overcast—but honestly, it only added to the variety and beauty of the images. That soft, dreamy lighting on the cloudier days? Pure magic. And when the sun popped through? It felt like a little celebration in itself.

A Mix of Graduates, a Whole Lot of Personality

Each session had its own vibe, but one thing they all had in common? Joy. Whether it was the relaxed confidence of the college grads, the energy and excitement of the high school seniors, or that spontaneous “actually…” moment that sent us into fits of laughter, these sessions were full of life and personality.

There’s nothing cookie-cutter about the way I approach senior sessions—because there’s nothing cookie-cutter about the amazing grads I get to photograph. Everyone brings something different, and I love leaning into that.

Why Senior Sessions Are So Special to Me (Hint: I’m an Educator Too!)

Senior portraits mean the world to me—not just as a photographer, but as someone who works in education. I see the effort, the growth, the transformation that happens in these final years. I know how much heart goes into earning that diploma or degree.

So when I get the chance to photograph a graduate, I show up with so much pride and care. I want them to feel celebrated and confident—and to have photos that reflect who they are in this moment.

Let’s Celebrate Your Graduation with a Senior Session in Fort Payne

Whether you’re about to walk the stage or already tossed your cap in the air earlier this year, it’s never too late to document this milestone. Alabama’s scenic locations make perfect backdrops for portraits that feel relaxed, natural, and totally you.

Golden Hour Motherhood Session in Fort Payne, Alabama

There’s just something magical about golden hour on a farm in Fort Payne, Alabama. The way the light spills across the fields makes everything feel calm, soft, and timeless. For this sweet motherhood session, I got to capture a mama and her son soaking up every bit of that golden glow.

A Dreamy Farm Field Setting

The session took place in a quiet field on a farm, surrounded by the natural beauty that makes Fort Payne so special. As the sun began to set, the sky lit up with warm tones that created the most beautiful backdrop. Fort Payne is already such a charming spot in Alabama, and when you add golden hour into the mix, it feels like pure magic.

What They Wore for Their Session

This mother chose a flowing sage green full-length dress that looked stunning against the golden light and soft textures of the field. The muted tones were elegant, timeless, and perfect for golden hour photography. Her son wore a tan and white checked outfit that added a sweet, playful touch while keeping the color palette neutral and cohesive. Outfits like these not only photograph beautifully but also allow the connection and emotions to shine through.

The Sweet Bond Between Mother and Son

Little ones are full of curiosity, and this boy was no exception. From curious glances to giggles when mama lifted him up, every moment was filled with genuine connection. Photographing motherhood sessions like this is such a gift—it’s all about freezing those fleeting moments that pass so quickly as kids grow.

Why I Love Golden Hour Sessions in Fort Payne

Golden hour is hands-down my favorite time to shoot, especially in a farm field setting. The light is softer, colors are richer, and everything feels a little more romantic. It’s the perfect recipe for capturing natural, candid photos that tell your family’s story. Fort Payne offers so many gorgeous outdoor locations, but farm fields at sunset might just be my favorite.

Ready to Capture Your Own Golden Hour Memories?

Darth Vader, Baby Chicks, and My Last Year in the Classroom

Hatching chicks in the classroom is one of the best hands-on learning activities for 1st graders. This year, I brought the project to life in September for the first time, and my students were thrilled! See how we tied the chick hatch into memory books, classroom traditions, and unforgettable photos.

This year feels different. It’s my last year in the classroom, and I’ve been soaking up every little moment. Hatching chicks has been a favorite tradition with my students for years. This year we started our hatch in September. 🐣 And let me tell you—it made the beginning of the school year more magical than ever.

From the moment I got the incubator out, my students were hooked. We talked about the life cycle of a chicken, counted down the days, and excitedly waited for hatch day to arrive. Their excitement reminded me exactly why I’ve loved teaching all these years.

Meet Darth Vader 🖤🐥

Our first chick hatched fully fluffed and ready for the spotlight. The class proudly named it Darth Vader, keeping in theme with our Star Wars-inspired classroom. Vader quickly became a favorite, and honestly, I couldn’t imagine a more perfect name for our first fluffy friend.

The Sweetest Moment: Chick Cuddles

While I take care of feeding and watering, the most exciting part for the kids is getting to hold the chicks. For many of them, it’s the very first time they’ve ever held a baby animal.

Their eyes light up. Their voices go quiet. Their hands cradle these tiny lives so gently. It’s a moment I never want to forget—and I don’t want them to forget it either.

So, I take a photo of every single child holding a chick. Each image is printed and lovingly placed into their end-of-year memory book.

Because Moments Like This Deserve to Be Remembered

As a teacher and a photographer, I know how quickly childhood moves. These little hands won’t always be so small. But with just one photo, that moment—their first time holding a chick—can stay with them forever.

These photos are more than cute snapshots. They’re proof of joy, bravery, curiosity, and growth. They tell a story these kids will remember when they look back one day.

A Beautiful Beginning... and Ending

Even though this is my last year teaching, starting it with something so engaging felt incredibly special. The chick hatch wasn’t just a science lesson—it became a symbol of growth, of trying something new, and of savoring the little moments.

We read chick books and drew chick pictures. But most of all, we made a memory together.

And now it’s one they’ll get to keep forever.

Want to follow along as I close this beautiful chapter?

You can find me over at www.littleriverlens.com, where I’m sharing more classroom stories and life behind the lens. Whether you're a fellow teacher, a parent, or someone who believes in the power of pictures, I’d love to have you along.

5 Creative Ways to Display Your Professional Photos at Home

Don’t let your beautiful photos sit on your phone! Here are 5 creative ways to display your family, newborn, maternity, or engagement photos at home—from gallery walls to heirloom albums and even seasonal rotations.

5 Creative Ways to Display Your Professional Photos at Home

You’ve had the session. You’ve fallen in love with your gallery. Now what?

Too often, beautiful photos end up lost in digital space—buried in cloud storage or stuck in your phone. But your memories deserve more than a folder. They deserve to be seen, celebrated, and enjoyed every single day.

If you’ve had a family, newborn, maternity, or engagement session recently, here are five of my favorite ways to turn those moments into art in your home:

1. Create a Gallery Wall

Gallery walls are a timeless way to make a big impact. Mix and match sizes, frame styles, and even photo types (color + black & white!) to give your space personality. A hallway, staircase, or living room wall is the perfect place to showcase your growing family through the years.

Pro tip: Lay it out on the floor first or use paper templates on the wall to get spacing just right.

2. Frame a Statement Piece

Not ready for a full gallery wall? No problem. One large framed print—like a cozy family photo, a quiet newborn moment, or an epic golden-hour couple shot—can make a bold, beautiful statement in your home. Hang it above your bed, couch, or fireplace to anchor your space with love.

3. Design a Heirloom Photo Album

Albums are such an underrated way to enjoy your session. They keep your favorite images all in one place, and they're perfect for coffee tables, shelves, or gifting to grandparents. I always recommend Mpix for their quality and easy ordering process.

Bonus: Albums are especially great for maternity and newborn sessions. You’ll never regret having those early memories printed.

4. Use Wood or Canvas Prints

Looking for something a little more unique? Try a canvas wrap or a rustic wood print for a textured, cozy vibe. These work beautifully for maternity and family minis and add warmth to any room. They're lightweight, easy to hang, and make your photos feel like art.

5. Create a Seasonal Print Rotation

If you're someone who loves mini sessions throughout the year, consider framing a few favorite prints and swapping them out with each season! Display spring florals, cozy fall tones, or twinkly holiday minis depending on the time of year. It keeps your home decor fresh and meaningful.

Let’s Get Those Photos Off Your Phone ✨

You invested in beautiful photos—now let’s make sure they don’t get forgotten. If you're ready to book your next session or have questions about how to order prints, I’d love to chat!

Morning Portrait Session at Little River Canyon in Fort Payne, AL

Beautiful morning portrait session at Little River Canyon in Fort Payne, AL. Soft light, joyful energy, and stunning canyon views.

Morning Portrait Session at Little River Canyon in Fort Payne, AL

There’s nothing like starting the day with a sunrise session at Little River Canyon in Fort Payne, Alabama. The crisp morning air, soft golden light, and peaceful atmosphere make it the perfect time for portraits. Recently, I photographed one young woman here, and her session was full of joy, laughter, and beautiful style.

Why Morning Light is Perfect for Portraits

Morning sessions at Little River Canyon are pure magic. The light is softer and more even, giving portraits a dreamy, golden glow without the harsh shadows of midday. The canyon feels calm and quiet in the early hours, which creates a relaxed vibe for photos. This made the perfect setting for her solo portrait session in Fort Payne, AL.

Two Outfits, Two Unique Vibes

She styled her session with two completely different looks, and both were stunning against the canyon backdrop. Her first outfit was filled with bright, colorful tones that popped against the rocky cliffs and lush greenery. It reflected her fun personality and set such a playful tone for the morning.

Her second look was a mauve pink outfit, soft and feminine. Against the golden morning light, the mauve tones felt elegant and timeless. Having two outfits gave her session a perfect mix of bold energy and graceful beauty, while also adding variety to her gallery.

Capturing Confidence and Joy

From the very first shot, she radiated confidence. Her laughter carried through the entire session, and that joy made every portrait feel authentic and alive. Whether she was striking a confident pose in her colorful outfit or glowing in her soft pink look, her portraits captured her true self—joyful, beautiful, and full of life.

Pro Tip: Morning vs. Evening Sessions at Little River Canyon

Many people wonder if they should book a morning session or an evening golden hour session. Here’s the truth: both are gorgeous, but they give off different vibes.

🌞 Morning Sessions – The light is soft and glowy, the canyon is quieter, and the cool air makes it comfortable even in warmer months. It’s perfect if you want a fresh, calm, and bright look.

🌅 Evening Sessions – Golden hour in the evening gives warm, dramatic tones with long shadows and a romantic atmosphere. The canyon can be busier, but the sunset views are stunning.

It really depends on your personality and the look you want for your portraits. This young woman’s morning session worked beautifully because it reflected her cheerful energy and gave us soft, natural colors throughout the shoot.

Book Your Morning Portrait Session in Fort Payne, AL

The People Who Believe in Me | Fort Payne AL Photographer

Two months ago, I picked up my camera and started the journey of becoming a photographer here in Fort Payne, Alabama. It’s brand new, it’s exciting, and at times it feels overwhelming. But the one thing that has made this adventure possible is the people who believe in me.

Why Support Matters So Much

Starting something new can feel scary. When you’re chasing a dream, it’s easy to wonder if you’re good enough or if it will actually work out. What has pushed me forward isn’t just my passion for photography—it’s the encouragement from the people around me. Having friends, family, and mentors remind me that I’m capable has made all the difference.

Friends Who Let Me Practice

Every photographer has a beginning, and for me, that meant practice sessions with friends. They stepped in front of my camera when I was still figuring out the basics. They trusted me, laughed with me, and gave me the space to learn. Those early shoots weren’t perfect, but they were filled with joy—and they built my confidence.

Family Who Cheered Me On

My family has been my biggest cheerleaders. From reminding me that growth takes time to celebrating every little win, they’ve been in my corner since day one. Their support has made me believe that this isn’t just a hobby—it’s a path worth pursuing.

Mentors and Community Inspiration

I’ve also been inspired by other photographers and creatives who’ve shared advice, encouragement, and their own stories. Seeing how others built their businesses and stayed true to their passion has shown me what’s possible. Even in Fort Payne, there’s a strong creative spirit, and I’m grateful to be a part of it.

A Journey Built on Belief

When I look at where I am now, I know I wouldn’t have made it here without the people who believed in me. Their encouragement is woven into every photo I take. It reminds me that photography isn’t just about creating pretty images—it’s about connection, trust, and stories worth remembering.

Let’s Capture Your Story Together

If you’re in Fort Payne, AL and looking for someone who will put their whole heart into capturing your memories, I’d love to work with you. My journey may be new, but it’s fueled by the love and support of the people around me—and that passion carries into every session. Why I Started Little River Lens LLC | From Teacher to Photographer

Why I Started Little River Lens LLC | From Teacher to Photographer

If you had told me a year ago that I’d be starting my own photography business, I’m not sure I would’ve believed you. But here I am—wrapping up my final year as a teacher and stepping into a brand new chapter with Little River Lens LLC. This journey has already been full of heart, growth, and a lot of beautiful light (literally and metaphorically ✨).

Trading the Classroom for a Camera

Teaching has been a huge part of my life. For years, I poured my energy into helping others learn and grow. But deep down, I knew I was ready for something new—something creative, something of my own, and something I could pour my whole heart into.

Photography found me at just the right time. In the last few months, I purchased my first camera, built a website through Squarespace, and started delivering galleries with CloudSpot. More than the technical side, I’ve fallen in love with capturing the little in-between moments. The real smiles. The connection. The story behind every single image.

Building Little River Lens LLC from the Ground Up

Like most new beginnings, this one has been filled with learning curves—but also SO much joy. What’s made it even more special is the support I’ve received from my family and friends. They’ve shown up in every way: letting me practice on them, cheering me on, sharing my work, and reminding me I can do this.

Launching Little River Lens LLC hasn’t just been about learning a new skill. It’s about creating something rooted in purpose. Something that feels like me.

What I Bring to Your Session

My background as a teacher has shaped the way I approach photography—with patience, empathy, and an eye for those real, natural moments. Whether I’m photographing a couple in love, a family giggling under the golden sun, or a small business owner chasing their dream, my goal is to help you feel seen and celebrated.

Even as a newer photographer, I bring deep intentionality, a strong work ethic, and a creative heart. Every session is an honor. Every story matters.

But deep down, I knew I was ready for something new—something creative, something of my own, and something I could pour my whole heart into and do it while cherishing every precious second with GRANDCHILD number six!!
